George Michael doing acting debut on TV

George Michael British singer, who gave his farewell concert recently, makes his acting debut on a US TV show.

Sources said that the singer turns up on a doorstep while playing himself in fantasy drama “Eli Stone”. British actor Johnny Lee Miller plays the lawyer Eli who has hallucinations based around Michael’s song lyrics.

Each episode is named after one of his hits. The first test show is called “Faith” and other episodes are named “Freedom”, “Wake Me Up Before You Go” and “I Want Your Sex”.

The show also stars “Titanic” actor Victor Garber.

Colliding galaxies shed light on Dark Matter

Astronomers have clicked pictures of a strong collision of galaxy group and said that it might shed light on the behavior of gloomy matter. They operated NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and Hubble Space Telescope to study the galaxy bunch which is called as MACSJ0025.4-1222.

The researchers said that they can watch a precise split between gloomy and ordinary matter, replying a critical question about whether gloomy matter acts together with itself other than the gravitational forces. Marusa Bradac of the University of California Santa Barbara, who head the study, said that the gloomy or dark matter creates five times more matter in the universe than ordinary matter.

Arctic Ice second-lowest ever

U.S. scientists said that the Arctic sea ice has come to the second-lowest level ever, with exact melting in the Chukchi Sea, where polar bears were on recent times seen swimming far away the Alaskan coast.

This year’s Arctic ice melt could exceed the unique 2007 record reduce in the up coming weeks. The previous year’s smaller ice level was arrived on September 16, according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center.

The Colorado-based center said that even if no records are cracked this year, the descending trend in summer sea ice in the Arctic persists. “No matter where we situate at the end of the melt season it is just supporting this idea that Arctic ice is in its death state,” said Mark Serreze, a scientist at the center. He further said that the Arctic could be escaped of summer ice by 2030.

US: Al-Qaida militants moving to NWFP

The Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen James Conway said in a press meeting that the coalition forces will not be able to solve the problems in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan and it was essentially up to the government in Islamabad to come to the terms with what is happening on their sovereign soil.

General Conway said, “We do see more foreign fighters now, though, I think, coming to Pakistan and operating in Afghanistan than we’re seeing in Iraq. No intelligence agency would say this, but it may be that there’s been a refocus. I think the Al-Qaida knows that they have blown a movement in Iraq through a number of missteps over time.”

UICC: An apple a day keeps cancer away?

Today numerous people are totally confused about what are the causes of cancer and the most effective means of prevention, with many favouring more fruit rather than cutting down alcohol, a new study said

The International Union Against Cancer (UICC) said, “Many people hold mistaken beliefs about what causes cancer, tending to inflate the threat from environmental factors that have relatively little impact while minimising the hazards of behaviour,”
In a UICC’s survey, it was found that in developed countries like US, Britain and Spain, 59% people are not eating enough fruits and vegetable was a cancer risk, while only 51% viewed alcohol intake in the same way.

Dell launched new PCs targeting emerging markets

Dell Inc launched four low-cost computer models. India and other emerging economies in a new bid to tap the potential of high-growth markets outside the US.

Steve Felice, the US computer maker’s president said that the two notebook and two desktop PCs are the first Dell models designed especially for emerging markets. They are meant for small business users and are to be sold in 20 countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Strong sales in Asia helped Dell turn in better-than-expected results in the first quarter despite a slowing US economy. It is due to report its latest quarterly results Friday, and analysts are watching whether it can maintain its growth pace.

David Miliband British Foreign Secretary warned Russia and said not to start a new Cold War, and suggested the European Union (EU) and NATO should review their relations with Moscow.

He said, “Russia is not yet reconciled to the new map of this region,”

He said, “unilateral attempt to redraw the map marks a moment of real significance”.

Report: Poverty on the rise in US

As per latest survey, more than 37 million Americans live in poverty and nearly 46 million have no health insurance

The US Census Bureau’s annual report on income, poverty and health insurance coverage showed that some 37.3 million people lived in poverty in the United States in 2007, an increase from the 36.5 million people in 2006,

David Johnson, head of the housing and household economic statistics division of the Census Bureau said, “The number of people without health insurance coverage decreased to 45.7 million people in 2007″ from 47 million in 2006.

Hugh Hefner opens his Playboy mansion for Pammi

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner has offered Pamela Anderson his mansion – if she ever finds herself homeless.

Sources said that the ‘Baywatch’ actress has posed for several Playboy covers and can when needed can rely on Hefner for a place to live.

She said: “(I asked Hefner) If ever anything goes wrong, I can come and live here, can’t I?”

And Hefner replied: Yes, of course. You are always welcome at my place.”

Meanwhile, the actress is currently living with ex-husband Tommy Lee Jones, but has denied that they’re back together as a couple.
