Meditation slows AIDS progression

US researchers said that Meditation may slow the worsening of AIDS in just a few weeks, perhaps by affecting the immune system.

The team at the University of California Los Angeles said that it’s cheap and pleasant way to help people from incurable and often fatal condition.

They tested a stress-lowering program called mindfulness meditation, defined as practicing an open and receptive awareness of the present moment, avoiding thinking of the past or worrying about the future.

The more often the volunteers meditated, the higher their CD4 T-cell counts — a standard measure of how well the immune system is fighting the AIDS virus. The CD4 counts were measured before and after the two-month program.

Iced tea ups kidney stones risk

Latest study by Dr. John Milner said that Iced tea may raise the risk of developing painful kidney stones, say experts. A urology expert at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, has revealed that iced tea contains high concentrations of oxalate, a chemical that leads to the formation of kidney stones.

He said, “For many people, iced tea is potentially one of the worst things they can drink. For people who have a tendency to form kidney stones, it’s definitely one of the worst things you can drink,”

He said, actually the most cause of Kidney stones is the failure to drink enough fluids.

Tobacco could help treat cancer

As per latest research by US researchers that a personalized vaccine made using tobacco plants — normally associated with causing cancer rather than helping cure it — could aid people with lymphoma in fighting the disease.

The treatment, which would vaccinate cancer patients against their own tumor cells, is made using a new approach that turns genetically engineered tobacco plants into personalized vaccine factories.

Dr. Ron Levy said, “This is the first time a plant has been used for making a protein to inject into a person,”

Consuming nuts during pregnancy may increase the risk of developing childhood asthma among newborns.

Researchers investigate the influence of mother’s food consumption during pregnancy on childhood asthma outcomes from 1 to 8 years of age. Researchers in America followed 4,146 pregnant women (1,327 with a history of allergy or asthma and 2,819 with no such history).

These women were asked about their frequency of consumption of fruit, vegetables, fish, egg, milk, milk products, nuts, and nut products during the last month of pregnancy. Their children were followed until 8 years of age.

As per latest study that daily consumption of nut products increased the risk of wheezing in a child by 42 percent, shortness of breath by 58 percent and steroid use to ease asthma symptoms by 62 percent, compared to children born to mothers who rarely consumed nuts.

Diabetes intensifies TB risk

Individuals with diabetes are at an increased risk of developing active tuberculosis (TB), according to research published in the journal PLoS Medicine.

Researchers searching over the past four decades containing data on the relationship between diabetes and TB. Christie Jeon and Megan Murray of the Harvard School of Public Health identified 13 studies involving more than 1.7 million participants, including 17,698 cases of TB.

Researchers calculated that diabetes increases the risk of active TB by about a factor of three. A three-fold increased risk suggests that diabetes may already be responsible for more than 10percent of TB cases in India and China.

Half the world will be obese by 2030

A group of researchers at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine predict that by 2030, almost 58% of the world’s population will be overweight or obese.

A doctoral candidate at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Kelly claims that almost one-third of the world is already considered overweight or obese.

In this, the researchers employed 72 national, 22 multi-site and 14 regional studies from 106 countries, covering approximately 88% of the world’s population.

Active lifestyle may prevent cancer

As per latest research by Japanese that physically active people are less likely than sedentary types to develop cancer.

As per study, active group of people surveyed had 13% less risk of developing cancer as compared with least active group. And active group of women had a 16% lower risk than their sedentary counterparts.

Section Chief of the National Cancer Centre Dr. Manami said, “There has been a lot of research done in the past on the relationship between leisure and development of cancer in the West,”

New way to test for Diabetes Risk

A U.S. study published that the protein produced in the liver may give doctors a way to foresee years in advance that is at great risk for the common type of diabetes.

Examined people in their 70s, the researchers found those with high quantity of protein is called as fetuin-A were far more expected than those with low levels to obtain type 2 diabetes over six years. Fetuin-A is produced by liver cells and may be combined in the metabolism of the sugar glucose and calcium. . Type 2 diabetes is marked by high levels of glucose, the body’s source of energy in the blood.

Switch off the TV to stay slim: Study

Everybody knows what too much television can do to the mind and what too little exercise can do to the body, but a Canadian study has now shown that the boob tube can also lead to an increase in how much we eat.

As per latest study by University of Toronto nutritionist Harvey Anderson found that kids who watched TV while eating lunch took in 228 extra calories than those who ate without the television on.

The Canadian Institutes for Health Research said, “One of Anderson’s conclusions is that eating while watching television overrides our ability to know when to stop eating,”
