Bush said: Olympics exceeded expectations

Bush US President said that the Beijing Olympics exceeded his expectations, calling them a “very uplifting experience” that he won’t forget.

Bush said, “The whole thing is genuine, that’s the good thing about the Olympics. It’s been a lot of fun.”

He said his attendance, which has been criticized by human-rights activists as an endorsement of China’s repression of free expression, was important.

Bush warns Russia to pull back in Georgia

George W Bush US President has demanded that Russia end a “dramatic and brutal escalation” of violence in Georgia, agree to an immediate cease-fire and accept international mediation to end the crisis in the former Soviet republic.

Bush warned Russia in his strongest comments since the fighting erupted over Georgia’s separatist South Ossetia region last week to “reverse the course it appears to be on” and abandon any attempt to topple Georgia’s pro-western government.

The President said, “Russia has invaded a sovereign neighboring state and threatens a democratic government elected by its people. Such an action is unacceptable in the 21st century,”

China asks US to discard bias

President George W Bush rejecting the remarks over religious freedom in the country, China today asked the US to discard “bias” and stop interfering in its internal affairs.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said, “We urge the United States to discard bias and view the religious situation in China with a just and objective attitude, and stop interfering in China’s internal affairs under the pretext of relevant issues,”

Beijing maintained that China was a country under the rule of law and the government protects its citizens’ freedom of religious belief according to the law.

In a break with past Bush administration policy, a top U.S. diplomat will for the first time join colleagues from other world powers at a meeting with Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator,

America’s third highest ranking diplomat William Burns will attend talks with the Iranian envoy, Saeed Jalili, in Switzerland. Their main aim is to persuading Iran to halt activities that could lead to the development of atomic weapons.

Official contacts between Iran and the United States are extremely rare and although Washington is part of a six-nation effort to get Iran to stop enriching and reprocessing uranium, the administration has shunned contacts with Tehran on the matter.

Obama wants a change in US policy on Pakistan

Barack Obama said that the United States cannot succeed in its mission in Afghanistan and on the home-front unless there is a change in the country’s policy on Pakistan.

In his major foreign policy speech, Obama not only outlined his framework on withdrawal of forces from Iraq but also how an administration led by him would fight the al-Qaida dens in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Obama said, “As President, I will make the fight against al-Qaida and Taliban the top priority that it should be. This is a war that we have to win,”

Obama said, “It is unacceptable that almost seven years after nearly 3,000 Americans were killed on our soil, the terrorists who attacked US on 9/11 are still at large. Osama Bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahari are recording messages to their followers and plotting more terror,”.

Iraq`s al-Maliki wants short-term US agreement

Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said that he is discussing a short-term memorandum of understanding with US officials instead of trying to hammer through a formal agreement on the presence of American forces in the country.

He added, his government proposed the memorandum after widespread opposition to US demands made in talks on a formal Status of Forces Agreement. The agreement would keep US troops in Iraq after a UN mandate expires at year’s end.
He said, memorandum includes a formula for the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.

Bush says backs strong dollar policy

Bush said after meeting Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, ‘‘our economy is not expanding as fast as we wish to. We had experienced the positive development in the first quarter and we will see what will happen in the second quarter.’’

The US economy rose at a 1 percent annual rate in the first quarter amid mounting oil and commodity prices. Because of consistent weakness, the Labour Department told that US employers reduced jobs for the sixth straight month in June.

The Bush administration has come under pressure from abroad to take action to balance the weak US dollar, another issue is expected to crop up during the G8 meetings at the lakeside resort of Toyako July 7-9. Continue reading…

President Bush praise Brown

George Bush appreciated PM Gordon Brown as he said that Britain would increase sanction against Iranian banks and send 230 extra troops to southern Afghanistan and keep British troops in southern Iraq till the Iraqi security forces rectified a withdrawal.

Bush said that Brown knew that the spread of freedom was transformative, and it was wrong to think that “only white guy Methodists” wanted self-government. Continue reading…

President Bush is in Europe on a farewell trip to major capitals, expressing both concern and long term confidence in the US economy.

The President left Monday for Slovenia for his final US-European Union Summit. He is also visiting in these countries also Germany, Italy, France, England and Northern Ireland.

He said that a strong dollar is in the US interest and the interest of the global economy. He added the weakness of the dollar has been blamed by some for rising oil prices.
