Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state claimed that American negotiators still have not progressed in obtaining Iraqi officials to coincide to keep US troops well into the next president’s first term.

On a surprise visit to Baghdad, Rice disagree pervious reports that the two sides had sorted out the last tiffs in a major contested draft agreement that is outstanding to restore the UN mandate covering the US-led occupation.

President George Bush desires the pact to approve a troop existence at least until 2011 so that he can win it as evidence of his policy’s success

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has called Pervez Musharraf “a friend to the United States” and one of the “world’s most committed partners in the war against terrorism”.

She said, “President Musharraf made the critical choice to join the fight against al-Qaida, the Taliban, and other extremist groups that threaten the peace and security of Pakistan, its neighbors, and partners throughout the world. For this, he has our deep gratitude,”.

At the same time, the US has hailed the progress of democracy in Pakistan.

Rice said, US will be safe under Obama

Condoleezza Rice US Secretary of State has said that the nation will be safe under a Barack Obama presidency and that she is ruling out a shot at the Vice Presidency under either Obama or Republican John McCain.

In an interview, Rice was asked if she would feel secure with a President Obama.

She said, “Oh, the United States will be fine,”

She added, “I think that we are having an important debate about how we keep the country safe,”. She pointing to the Middle East and Iraq. “Those are important judgments for the American people to make.”

Condoleezza warns Iran against stalling N-offer

Condoleezza Rice warned Iran not to delay a decision on an international offer of incentives on halting its sensitive nuclear work, ahead of a Saturday deadline.

Rice told to reporters, “The Iranians should know that this is not going to be a matter that they can stall,”

She said, “The world is watching,

Rice said, “We have been very clear that we have two tracks - if one track is not working, then we are going to have to go to the other.”

Condoleezza Rice urged China on Saturday not to use security concerns over next month’s Olympics as a cover to crush political dissent.

There has been a security clampdown in China ahead of the Aug. 8-24 Olympics. Some human rights groups, however, say the Chinese authorities have overreacted to security threats and used it as a way to crack down on political dissidents.

Rice said, “China should by all means showcase not just the Olympics but an attitude of openness and tolerance,”

Rice defends US-India nuclear deal

Condoleezza Rice US Secretary of State said that the US deal with India on nuclear energy cooperation will be good for both countries and for global efforts and also to prevent the spread of atomic technology that could be used to make bombs.

The pact would end more than three decades of nuclear isolation for India by opening its civilian reactors to international inspections in exchange for the nuclear fuel and technology. Previously, India has been denied such outside help because of its refusal to sign the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty and its testing of atomic weapons.

Rice said, while on her way to Australia, that India has a good record of not spreading its nuclear technology and that safeguards are built into the deal.

Rice warns Iran: US will defend Israel

Condoleezza Rice US Secretary warned Iran that that Washington had beefed up its “security presence” in the Gulf and would not hesitate to defend Israel and other allies in the region.

Rice said, “We will defend American interests and the interests of our allies,”

She added, “We take very strongly our obligation to defend our allies and we intend to do that,”

“In the Gulf area, the United States has enhanced its security capacity, its security presence and we are working closely with all our allies… to make (sure) they are capable of defending themselves.

Condoleezza Rice to visit quake-hit in China

Condoleezza Rice US Secretary will visit quake hit places in China on June 29 and as well as meet Chinese officials and relief workers.

Tom Casey deputy spokesman said, “First she is going to Chengdu, and then meet with some local officials and aid organizations.

Casey added, “This would certainly be the highest level of US representative there. This has obviously been a tragic situation for the people of China.”

He said, “Rice just wants to be able to go and look for herself and talk with some of those involved in the relief effort, and again also just do this as a show of sympathy and support for those people who have been affected by this.” Continue reading…
