Dalai Lama discharged from hospital

Dalai Lama spokesman said, now Dalai Lama discharged from the Indian hospital. Dalai Lama was suffering from abdominal discomfort.
Tenzin Takla said that the Dalai Lama was discharged Monday morning, but will remain in Mumbai for several days. According to him, Dalai Lama is in good condition but doctors advised him to rest as much as possible.
The Dalai Lama, 73, flew to Mumbai, India’s financial capital, on Thursday and was admitted to Lilavati Hospital with what his advisers said was exhaustion.

China urges Dalai Lama: Stop “separatist” actions:

China today asked the ageing Dalai Lama to stop his “separatist” activities and take “concrete actions” for future talks on the vexed Tibet issue.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said, “We still hope that the Dalai Lama will stop his separatist activities and in his late years, make more contributions to the development of Tibet and his motherland,”
He said Chinas policy on the Tibet issue was consistent and clear-cut. “The door for talks and contact with the Dalai side is always open,” he said adding that it is “imperative for the Dalai side to take concrete actions to create favourable conditions for talks and contacts.”

Dalai Lama: Chinese have killed 140 Tibetans in this week

Dalai Lama said that Chinese security forces opened fire on a crowd this week in eastern Tibet and may have killed 140 people
He told, “The Chinese army again fired on a crowd on Monday August 18, in the Kham region in eastern Tibet,”
“One hundred and forty Tibetans are reported to have been killed, but the figure needs to be confirmed.”

Sarkozy said he will not meet Dalai Lama

Nicolas Sarkozy’s French President said that he will not meet with the Dalai Lama when the Tibetan spiritual leader visits France next week.
Sarkozy’s office said that the Dalai Lama did not ask to meet with the President during his 11-day visit to France.
Sarkozy threatened to boycott the opening of the Beijing Olympics because of China’s crackdown in Tibet earlier this year.

Obama reassures US support for Dalai Lama

Barack Obama has expressed his support for the Tibetan cause and said the “slow but continuing dialogue” with Chinese authorities will bring positive results.
In a letter to Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, Obama regretted that travel schedules will prevent him from a meeting with the Nobel laureate.
He said, “I regret our respective travel schedules will prevent us from meeting during your visit to the US this month, I wanted to take the opportunity to reassure you of my highest respect and support for you, your mission and your people at this critical time,”

McCain meets with Dalai Lama

John McCain has called on China to release Tibetan prisoners as he met with the Dalai Lama.
McCain said, after a 45-minute meeting yesterday with the Dalai Lama, the Beijing Olympic Games in August provide an opportunity for China to demonstrate it recognises human rights.
He also said the Dalai Lama is merely seeking basic rights to preserve Tibetan culture, language and religion.
He added, ”That’s why I’m so disappointed by repeated statements by Chinese officials that ascribe to the Dalai Lama views and actions divorced from what he actually represents. Such rhetoric doesn’t serve a cause of peaceful change and reconciliation,”

Dalai Lama to visit Japan in November

Dalai Lama, will visit Japan in November for a series of lectures and meetings on Buddhist themes.
the Fukuoka Prefectural Buddhist Association said, The Nobel laureate, whose travels overseas are opposed by China, will visit Japan from November 1 to 7 and speak in the southwestern city of Fukuoka about compassion and happiness.
Buddhist group said that supporters are also arranging other events for the Dalai Lama.
The 73-year-old Dalai Lama, who has lived in India since fleeing Tibet after a failed uprising in 1959, is a frequent visitor to Japan where he enjoys an active following.

Bush praises Dalai Lama`s `courage`

George W Bush US President paid tribute to “the courage of the Dalai Lama and the Buddhists in Tibet,” less than one month before heading to China for the Beijing Olympics opening gala.
Bush also said that he told Chinese President Hu Jintao when they met last week in Japan: “So long as there are those who want to fight for their liberty, the United States stands with them.”

France calls in Chinese ambassador over Dalai Lama

Bernard W Kouchner French Foreign Minister said that he had called in China’s ambassador over his comments warning of serious consequences to relations if President Nicolas Sarkozy met the Dalai Lama.
Kouchner said, “I was very surprised by the remarks of the Chinese ambassador. I have asked him to come and see me to explain his position, which appears to be difficult for France to accept,”
Chinese ambassador to France Kong Quan yesterday warned of “serious consequences” to Sino-French relations if Sarkozy met the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader during his visit to France next month.

China holds more talks with Dalai Lama’s envoys

The government wishes to smooth tensions over Tibet before the Olympics. In spite of statements blaming the spiritual leader of fomenting separation, the meetings look as a positive sign.
The Chinese government said it has held other round of confidential talks with envoys of the Dalai Lama determined at lowering tensions before the Summer Olympics.
According to state media, Chinese representative Du Qingling said next dialogue will be possible only if the Tibetan spiritual leader unveils “positive behavior” and pledges to “not support activities troubling the Olympic Games.”
