India can’t fight food & oil crisis alone: menon

Foreign Secretary Shiv Shanker Menon said that India will stress for a gathered reply to the worldwide increase in food and oil prices when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met with G-8 leaders in Japan next week.
Raising food and oil costs have driven inflation to tensed levels across countries, raising fears of loss of jobs and food riots, particularly in underdeveloped countries of Africa and elsewhere.
Government data unveiled that the wholesale price-based inflation rate increased to a new 13-year high 11.63 per cent.

Billions more needed to rescue world from food crisis

UN chief Ban Ki-moon said, we need 20 million dollars a year would be needed to avoid disasters. He said, till now only 3 million dollars of emergency aid were made.
Ban said: we have to increase our resources; we need extra 15 to 20 billion dollars.
In Rome meeting, they announced new funding near about 2.7 billion dollars on the second day of the meeting. Ban also said, we have to increase 50 percent food production by 2030.
The UN World Food Programme announced 1.2 billion dollars for food crisis. The Islamic Development Band announced 1.5 billions dollars for poorest countries.

China’s agriculture minister says food security guaranteed after quake

China’s Agriculture Minister Sun Zhengcai said, ‘the recent major and heavy snowfalls in China would definitely get the food security.’ He further said that this year the earthquake would not change the nation’s situation of agriculture production as the local output of the affected area is small in comparison to the whole country.
In May, an 8.0-magnitude earthquake strike southwestern China with its epicenter in Wenchuan County with the death rate currently at over 70,000 people and causing immense economic loss.

Portugal calls for international aid for poor countries

Jaime Silva Portuguese Agriculture Minister said on Tuesday that the international communities should increase aid to poor countries. Silva offering special cooperation between Portugal and Portuguese speaking countries to face the food shortage.
Silva also said, it’s better to answer hunger problem instead of a theoretical discussion of the problem. Silva said all these before traveling to Italy to participate in the meeting of UN FAO.

Today World Leader meets with Human Rights and World Bank regarding global food crisis

Today, world leaders have a conference on the global food crisis with Human Rights and World Bank demanding some action. As per report, 100 million people into hunger.
The cost of food has just doubled over the last couple of years, like rice and corn and wheat at record highs. Some prices have hit their highest level in 30 years. People protest against the high cost of food because they are spending more than half their income on food.

FAO utter to reactivate agriculture due to world food crisis

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) urged countries to increase their agriculture to handle world food crisis.
World governments should urgently introducing and apply public policies like enlarging the growing crops area to boost grain production and distribution of food protect and help the most needed countries and their population.
FAO made the appeal days before the High Level Conference on Food Security due to be held in Rome. FAO said the current food crisis can be addressed from three perspectives.

World Bank creates food crisis fund

The World Bank on Thursday announced a 1.2 billion dollar program to fight the global food crisis, near about 200 million dollars in grants to poor countries facing the direst needs
The main motive of program is to aid to those in need as “high food prices are making the bottom billion (people) into potentially the bottom two billion,” Robert Zoellic said, the president of World Bank.
Bank also said that, they boost its overall support for global agriculture and food to six billion dollars next year. Crop insurance and small farmers of developing countries are the part of the program.
