US said there were no plans to change the Indo-US atomic agreement to address concerns in the Nuclear Suppliers Group over giving waiver to India to do nuclear commerce but maintained that “in life you never rule things out”.

Robert Wood State Department spokesman said that the Bush administration is working “very hard” to have the civilian nuclear initiative come into fruition but it is also quite aware of the fact that the “congressional clock is ticking”.

He said “there are no plans that I know of to change the agreement. But, you know, in life you never rule things out.”

Nepal reassures India over ties with China

Nepal said India should not worry about Prime Minister Prachanda’s recent visit to China as it will pursue a policy of “equi-distance” with its two neighbouring countries.

Upendra Yadav Foreign Minister said in Kathmandu, “India does not need to worry about Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s recent visit to China to observe the closing ceremony of Olympics as it was a normal visit where other world leaders were also invited,”

Yadav said that Nepal has close relations with both the countries and it ill pursue a policy of equi-distance with India and China.

WB utter India, China, US to find DOHA solution

World Bank Group President Robert B. Zoellick desires the United States, India, and China to work with WTO Director General Pascal Lamy to crop up with a negotiation on the Doha round of world trade discussions.

He said that Brazil is a developing country which is both a highly agricultural exporter and house to several poor farmers, can support. Indonesia and Australia may be in a condition to add to a solution even.

The UN said that India, China and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region must boost public health spending by at least 2 per cent in order to reduce the number of children dying before their fifth birthday.

As per UN report, In 2006, 2.1 million children under five years died in India, one-fifth of the world’s total, and 4,15,000 died in China.

The major causes of child death are poor neonatal care, pneumonia, diarrhea and malnutrition.

Pakistan’s hopes to scuttle the Indo-US nuclear deal at the IAEA has taken a U turn after America’s chief negotiator on the deal Nicholas Burns said Pakistan had no chance of making a similar deal with the US.

Former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas burns minced no words when he said, Pakistan’s track record on non proliferation was not one to be trusted.

Yusuf Raza Gilani Pakistan’s Prime minister said that America are expecting a nuclear deal on their own from the Americans and Pakistan had threatened to vote against the Safeguards Agreement that’s expected to be passed by the IAEA’s board of governors in Vienna on Friday.

Britain strict visa rules for foreign students

Britain on Wednesday unveiled stricter visa rules under which students from India and other non-European countries will require to provide their fingerprints and prove that they have money to support themselves.

Official said that the new system, known as Tier 4, will be more transparent and easily understood and will simplify the existing immigration rules.

They said that as per the new rules all the students will have to be sponsored by education institutions that have been licensed by the UK Borders Agency.

The Afghan intelligence agency has accused Pakistani agents of training thousands of militants to attack Indian road projects in Afghanistan.

Afghan officials said that Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) agency of a string of attacks in recent months straining relations between the neighbours, both allies of the United States.

NDS (National Directorate of Security) said, “Pakistan’s ISI are determined to hamper the activities of Indian companies in various parts of Afghanistan,”

Pakistan said that it will encourage the process of composite dialogue with India “to reduce tensions and resolve all outstanding issues” between the two neighbouring countries.

In a statement between Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and US president George W Bush yesterday the two sides said. Pakistan said that they will reduce tensions, build trust and resolve all outstanding issues.

The statement said, “The two leaders agreed that the focus of the broad- based Pakistan-US relationship should remain on ensuring the well being of the people by assisting Pakistan to implement its national development agenda in a comprehensive manner,”

Chinese people are confident about their nation’s place on the world stage but a poll highlights “significant tensions” between China and other rival powers, including India with 24 per cent viewing New Delhi as an “enemy.”

The Chinese think that their country is popular abroad with roughly three-in-four (77 per cent) believing people in other countries generally have favourable opinions of China.

In an survey by the Pew Research Centre’s Pew Global Attitudes Project highlights significant tensions between China and other rival powers.
