Iran rocket launch ‘disturbing’: US

The White House said, the declaration of Iran that it had released a home-built rocket into space was “disturbing” because such technology could also be operated for ballistic missiles.

Gordon Johndroe, spokesperson said, “The Iranian development and testing of rockets is disturbing and builds further questions about their objective.”

“This action and twice use possibilities for their ballistic missile program have been a matter of IAEA discussions and are incoherent with their UN Security Council compulsions,” he said referring to the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Mohammad Ali Jaafari said that Iran has testfired new powerful anti-ship missile capable to hit targets at the range of 300 kilometres,

He said, “Iran has tested new weapons, which will spare no enemy ship as it can sink within the range of 300 kilometres from the Iranian borders,’

He added that this is new technology; it had developed with homegrown technology so far unused by any other country.

Condoleezza warns Iran against stalling N-offer

Condoleezza Rice warned Iran not to delay a decision on an international offer of incentives on halting its sensitive nuclear work, ahead of a Saturday deadline.

Rice told to reporters, “The Iranians should know that this is not going to be a matter that they can stall,”

She said, “The world is watching,

Rice said, “We have been very clear that we have two tracks - if one track is not working, then we are going to have to go to the other.”

Barack Obama said on that a nuclear Iran would pose a “grave threat” and that the world must prevent it from obtaining the atomic bomb.

Obama said, “A nuclear Iran would pose a grave threat and the world must prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon,”

He added, “I will take no options off the table in dealing with this potential Iranian threat,”

“A nuclear Iran would be a game-changing situation, not just in the Middle East but around the world.”

Iran`s President `no retreat` in nuclear row

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that Iran will not “retreat one iota” over its disputed nuclear program. on Wednesday.

At a meeting with Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator in Geneva on Saturday, 6 world powers gave Iran two weeks to answer calls to rein in its nuclear activities, which they suspect may be aimed at producing atom bombs, or face tougher sanctions.

President said, “The Iranian nation … will not retreat one iota in the face of oppressing powers,”

Iran said, that its nuclear program is a peaceful drive only to generate electricity so that the world’s fourth-largest crude producer, can export more of its oil and gas.

British PM warns Iran in landmark Israel speech

Gordon Brown British Prime Minister warned Iran that it must freeze sensitive nuclear work or face more sanctions, in the first address by a British premier to the Israeli parliament.

He also railed against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s ”abhorrent” threats against Israel and declared that Britain stands alongside the Jewish state.

Brown said peace was within their grasp, but only if Israel withdraws from settlements in the occupied West Bank and the Palestinians stamp out ”terrorists”.

In a break with past Bush administration policy, a top U.S. diplomat will for the first time join colleagues from other world powers at a meeting with Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator,

America’s third highest ranking diplomat William Burns will attend talks with the Iranian envoy, Saeed Jalili, in Switzerland. Their main aim is to persuading Iran to halt activities that could lead to the development of atomic weapons.

Official contacts between Iran and the United States are extremely rare and although Washington is part of a six-nation effort to get Iran to stop enriching and reprocessing uranium, the administration has shunned contacts with Tehran on the matter.

Israel hints action against Iran

Israel has hinted at a possible military strike to halt Iran’s nuclear programme, saying it is the strongest country in the region and it was “not afraid to take action” against Tehran to foil its atomic ambitions.

Ehud Barak Defence Minister said, “Israel is the strongest country in the region and has proved in the past it is not afraid to take action when its vital security interests are at stake,”

Barak’s remarks came hours after Iran test fired a second round of missiles yesterday in the Persian Gulf during a manoeuvre following the nine ballistic missiles capable of hitting Israel it tested on Wednesday. Continue reading…

Rice warns Iran: US will defend Israel

Condoleezza Rice US Secretary warned Iran that that Washington had beefed up its “security presence” in the Gulf and would not hesitate to defend Israel and other allies in the region.

Rice said, “We will defend American interests and the interests of our allies,”

She added, “We take very strongly our obligation to defend our allies and we intend to do that,”

“In the Gulf area, the United States has enhanced its security capacity, its security presence and we are working closely with all our allies… to make (sure) they are capable of defending themselves.
