US troops: Hand over Anbar province`s security to Iraqis

A spokesman for the Iraqi forces said that the forces have finalised their preparations to take over responsibility for security in the western Anbar province
Mohamed al-Askary said, “US forces will transfer security tasks to Iraqi forces at the beginning of next month (Sep 1) during official ceremonies and military parades,”
According to sources that Anbar’s security transfer was initially scheduled to take place at the end of June, but due to some problem or disputes among local politicians delayed the process.

650 Iraqi doctors return from exile

A Health Ministry official said that near around 650 of the roughly 8,000 Iraqi physicians who fled the country since 2003 due to violence have returned to their jobs in the past two months because of improved security.
Health Minister Adel Muhsin said the doctors have returned to their jobs in hospitals across Iraq.
He said, “Several weeks ago, government officials appealed to doctors to return from exile. “We expect more doctors will respond to our call,”

Iraq searching for oil in last two decades

The oil minister said that first time in two decades that Iraq is searching for oil. Iraq has 115 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, the third largest in the world, but the government believes the country’s actual oil reserves may be three times as high.
Asim Jihad, spokesman for Oil Ministry, said it had trained three teams of geophysicists, geologists and engineers and would kick off exploration in the Gharraf field in Nassiriya in southern Iraq.
He added, “Tomorrow, the equipment will be turned on to start the first oil exploration for 20 years, at a ceremony which will be attended by the oil minister and senior officials,”

A female Suicide bomber kills at least 8 US-allied fighters in Iraq

Police said, a female suicide bomber blew herself up as she approached US-allied Sunni fighters walking in a crowded area north of Baghdad. Near Around 8 members of the group and wounding 24 other people.
The woman, who was shrouded in a traditional black Islamic robe, detonated her explosives belt at about 8:30 pm (local time) as she approached the group of awakening council guards in the central New Baqouba area, a police officer said.
The US military in northern Iraq said troops were investigating the bombing and it could not immediately confirm the attacker was a woman.

Iraq takes control of Shiite province from US-led forces

Iraq took control of security in the Shiite province of Diwaniyah on Wednesday and said it aimed to regain control of the entire country from US-led forces by end of the year.
Sheikh Khalid al-Attiya parliament speaker said, “We are receiving the security file of Diwniyah,”
He said, “This day represents a bright page in a series of achievements that show the ability and the strength of the Iraq forces.”
Diwaniyah, formerly known as Qadisiyah, is the 10th province to be handed over to Iraqi security control amid a fall in violence nationwide.

Two bomber blasts in Iraq, kills 28 Army recruits

Iraq police said, two suicide bombers blew themselves up in a crowd of army recruits Tuesday in a former al-Qaida in Iraq stronghold northeast of Baghdad, killing at least 28 people.
Official said that blast in Baqouba 35 miles from Baghdad, at least 47 recruits. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
The US military confirmed the attack, saying it occurred around 8 a.m.
Diyala province around Baqouba has been one of the few remaining violent areas in Iraq after offensives against extremists in the south, Baghdad’s Sadr City and Mosul in the north.

15 killed in Iraq attacks

Officials said that at least 15 people were killed in Iraq on Sunday, including seven by a bomb targeting a local leader of President Jalal Talabani’s political party.
The bomb exploded in the town of Qara Tappa in the restive province of Diyala outside the house of Mohammed Ramadan Eisa, a local leader of Talabani’s patriotic union of Kurdistan, the town’s mayor Sherwan Shukra said.
Shukra said. “Eisa was seriously wounded in the blast but his wife, mother-in-law, his two children, one brother and two of his guards were killed,”

Iraq to award oil contracts to foreign firms: ministry

An official said, ‘‘Iraq will assign contracts to 41 foreign oil firms in a bid to increase production that could give multinationals a potentially nominal foothold in massive but underdeveloped oil fields.’’ Asim Jihad, Oil Ministry spokesman said, “We selected 35 companies of international standard, according to their funds, environment and experience, and we allowed them to extract oil.”
Jihad said, ‘‘six other state-owned oil organizations from Algeria, Angola, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkey and Vietnam will also be awarded extraction deals.

Female suicide bomber kills 16 in Iraq

A woman suicide bomber who blew herself in the capital of Iran, Baquba. At least 23 people were dead.
Security official said, the bomber detonated her explosive vest beside a police patrol near the gate of the Diyala Provincial Governor’s headquarters and a courthouse.
As per Baquba hospital report, 16 bodies had been received by the hospital mortuary.
He said, among those killed were eight policemen, two women and a child. Al-Qaeda one of the dangerous regions in Iraq despite levels of violence nationwide hitting a four-year low.
