Musharraf Denies He Is Stepping Down

The spokesperson of White House said,’’ President Bush has assured the consistent support of President Pervez Musharraf with a phone call to him on Friday.’’ A Pakistani newspaper told that Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, the chief of army staff has forced Mr. Musharraf to resign from his post. But at an official dinner party, he was impelled to refuse the speculation about his departure.

Simulatenously, Pakistani military asserted that General Kayani had removed a loyaltist to Musharraf from one of army’s most important post. The sudden twist included the leader of Triple-One Brigade who has the responsibilty for safeguarding President and Islamabad.

The army exlained the appointment of Brig. Faheem Rao to the Triple-One Brigade as “regular,” Brig. Aasim Salim Bajwa’s removal was speculated by General Kayani to weaken Mr. Musharraf.
