Nepal’s political parties voted for a special assembly on Wednesday to abolish the Himalayan Kingdom’s around 239 years old Hindu Monarchy. 560 voted in favor of abolishing the Monarchy.
The government has told unpopular King Gyanendra to vacate his pink pagoda-roofed palace in the capital Kathmandu within a fortnight, or be forced out. He gave some comments on his future plans and said he wanted to remain in Nepal.
Police said that some activists of the royalist militant group Ranbir Sena threw pamphlets on the blast site, demanding that Nepal remain a Hindu Kingdom. Two bomb exploded only a difference of some meters from the venue for the Assembly while another went off in a city park.
