Abolish 239 years old Monarchy in Nepal

Nepal’s political parties voted for a special assembly on Wednesday to abolish the Himalayan Kingdom’s around 239 years old Hindu Monarchy. 560 voted in favor of abolishing the Monarchy.

The government has told unpopular King Gyanendra to vacate his pink pagoda-roofed palace in the capital Kathmandu within a fortnight, or be forced out. He gave some comments on his future plans and said he wanted to remain in Nepal.

Police said that some activists of the royalist militant group Ranbir Sena threw pamphlets on the blast site, demanding that Nepal remain a Hindu Kingdom. Two bomb exploded only a difference of some meters from the venue for the Assembly while another went off in a city park.

Nepal arrests hundreds of Tibetan women

080318-tibet-unrest-hmed-2ah2.jpgPolice detained more than 600 female Tibetan protesters, including many Buddhist nuns, on Sunday after breaking up several demonstrations against China’s recent crackdown in Tibet.

A senior police officer said the protesters were arrested for carrying the Tibetan flag and wearing head bands that read “Free Tibet.”

Activists said the protesters were arrested from around the royal palace in Kathmandu while they were gathering for a peaceful rally. Continue reading…

Nepal Maoists close to simple majority

The people desire in Nepal for a change.Former Maoist guerrillas headed for a landslide win in the historic Constituent Assembly election of Nepal.

The former rebels, who took part in a national election after 17 years, had captured 117 of the 212 seats declared so far, leaving the ruling parties far behind.
