The World Health Organisation(WHO) on Thursday unveiled a USD 28 million action plan to provide healthcare for cyclone survivors in Myanmar. Eric Laroche the head of WHO said, this is very serious crisis.

In Myanmar, communicable diseases are the greatest worry with the malaria season approaching, and one of another major disease risk of dengue fever and cholera. Malnutrition is also a serious threat, even people are affecting by infections, Laroche added.

After four weeks of Cyclone, more than 133,000 people dead and missing. UN report said, only 40 percent foreign aid reached.

Myanmar’s isolated military had largely barred foreign aid workers from gaining access to the southwest Irrawaddy Delta, which bore the brunt of the cyclone, but Laroche said access is now improving.

Last Friday, General Ban Ki-moon UN Secretary said, he had received assurance that Myanmar’s military regime permission to all foreign relief workers.

The action plan of WHO is to monitor Health needs and strengthen diseases surveillance, as well as rebuild Myanmar’s ravaged healthcare system.
